Areas of Expertise:
CONTEMPLATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY is the union of psychological work and spiritual practice. I provide meditation instruction as an adjunct to therapy to support your ability to relax and be present with yourself. I will help you look at what is out of balance in your life, and work toward creating a balance that allows you to live more authentically. I provide a safe, supportive environment where you will be met with empathy and compassion while also encouraging you to confront, explore, and transform that which keeps you from experiencing joy. The goal of heart centered, mindfulness based therapy is not only to heal or mature your basic sense of self, but also to awaken your true identity that is already balanced, whole and in harmony with all of life, now. My hope is that you will see the challenges in your life as part of the path of self development; the emotional and relational struggles as a spiritual opportunity to become more present in your body, in your relationships, and in your life. I work holistically with body, mind and spirit, and my core focus is spiritual, or transpersonal. Please visit my web site www.tinafossella.com to learn more about my work.

Other information:

I offer INDIVIDUAL THERAPY geared toward getting more satisfaction and meaning from your life. You may be dealing with feelings of depression or anxiety. You may want to change self-sabotaging or addictive patterns of behavior. You may be going through a difficult time, struggling with relationship or career issues, illness, divorce, or the death of a loved one. Psychotherapy can help you use your life’s challenges to grow as an individual and to manage your life more effectively by increasing your self-knowledge while empowering you to make positive changes in your life. My style is client-centered, interactive and supportive. We will engage in a process by which you examine your thoughts, feelings, actions, and relationships, increasing your self-knowledge while empowering yourself to make positive changes in your life. SPECIFIC AREAS OF EXPERTISE include (but are not limited to) relationship satisfaction and intimacy issues, career decisions and satisfaction level, depression, anxiety, grieving the loss of a loved one, relationship transitions or breakups, job stress and the demands of professional life, creativity issues and blocks to finding your own voice and expression, working through issues from childhood that may be affecting adult life, general dissatisfaction or feeling that life choices have not led to the satisfaction you hoped they would. The work is focused on the present, to the extent possible, keeping your therapeutic goals for the present and the future in sight while engaging and addressing material from the past as necessary. I work individually with clients of all ages, particularly those in their mid-twenties to late-thirties who are reflecting on the life choices they have made so far. Some of the benefits of counseling include the cultivation of greater self-awareness, developing better coping strategies, a greater capacity for intimacy in relationships, release from the past, less fear and anxiety, relief from depression, greater self-acceptance, movement toward health and happiness. COUPLES THERAPY is a specialty of mine and I am very experienced and successful in my work with couples. I work with straight, lesbian and gay couples at various stages in their relationships (married, engaged, committed, or at the beginning or end of a relationship). My couples work is interactive and supportive, geared toward efficient problem-solving and the working through of presenting issues by offering concrete, useable interventions. Couples therapy is not just about having problems in your relationship. Many successful couples use couples therapy as a way of maintaining a healthy relationship. Couples find that therapy creates a safe space where they can regularly discuss what needs attention and communicate what is currently working or not working in their relationship. SPECIFIC AREAS OF EXPERTISE include (but are not limited to) relationship crossroads and transitions (moving in, getting engaged, separating, etc), improving communication, deepening intimacy, connection and trust, working through built up anger and disappointment, discussing difficult issues such as money and sex, working with issues that seem to never get resolved, healing from and making decisions following affairs and infidelities, managing the impact of work and other outside stresses on the relationship. My couples work is influenced by the work of John Gottman, Ph.D. (author of Why Marriages Succeed or Fail and Seven Principles For Making Marriage Work), Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. (author of Getting the Love You Want and Giving the Love That Heals), and John Welwood (author of Perfect Love, Imperfect Relationship, Healing the Wound of the Heart).
